One-mile swim

Swim a mile in the iconic Serpentine lake

The mile is a classic distance in the world of open water swimming – so we’re delighted you’re considering signing up for the one-mile event at Swim Serpentine!

The one-mile swim takes place on the same course as the London 2012 Olympic Marathon Swimming event, with one full lap around the Serpentine making up the one-mile swim, so you’ll be following in the swim strokes of some of the world’s top open water swimmers.

This is a really popular option at Swim Serpentine, with swimmers taking anything from 20 minutes through to more than an hour to complete the swim.

Medal and souvenir swim hat for every finisher

All finishers will receive a medal after their swim, as well as a souvenir swim hat to wear on the day!

Swimmers with disabilities

Our team works to support participants with a range of disabilities to ensure Swim Serpentine offers a safe, inclusive environment for swimmers of all abilities.

If you need assistance to feel safe and confident at the event, we’ve put in place a number of measures to help, including:

  • ramped entrance into and exit out of the Serpentine
  • assistance with entering and exiting the water
  • accessible toilets and changing facilities

Please note that you do not need to enter a specific wave at the event to receive support.

If you have any further questions about the disability support available at the event, or need any additional support, please email disability@londonmarathonevents.co.uk and we’ll be in touch.

Swimmer safety at Swim Serpentine

Your safety is our number-one priority at Swim Serpentine, so our water safety team will be standing by to assist on the day. The Swim Serpentine course will be clearly marked by large buoys, so you’ll find it easy to make your way around your chosen swim distance.

It’s a good idea to complete your chosen distance in full in a pool before the event, and also to practise swimming in open water beforehand, so you have the best possible experience at Swim Serpentine.
