22 Mar 2018, 10 a.m.
Entries are now open for Swim Serpentine, the open water swimming festival in London's magnificent Hyde Park on Saturday 22 September 2018.
The 2018 Festival, the third to be staged, will once again offer the opportunity for people to swim in the beautiful Serpentine Lake. The event caters for all abilities, from the first-timer to the expert, with a range of distances. Entrants in the one and two-mile swim can can choose their own wave and start time so they can make the most of the day and the different activities in the Festival area.
- Half-Mile Swim: This distance is an ideal entry-level open water swim. Taking in half a lap of the Serpentine, there is plenty of time to swim this distance at your leisure with a friend, race your mum or dad or just try out an open water-swimming event with an achievable but, for some, still challenging swim. Entry costs £25. The swim starts at 08:30 and entrants must be at least 12 years old on Saturday 22 September 2018. Enter here
- One-Mile Swim: A one-mile swim is a classic distance in the world of open water swimming, with one full lap around the Serpentine. This is the most popular of all the swim distances at Swim Serpentine, with swimmers taking anything from 20 minutes to one hour to complete the swim. Entry costs £39. Entrants must be at least 16 years old on Saturday 22 September 2018. Enter here
- Two-Mile Swim: This swim is perfect if you would like to test yourself with two full laps of the Serpentine. It is aimed at more experienced swimmers who have already completed a one-mile open water swim. It's a challenging two-lap swim set in a beautiful location. Entry costs £49. Entrants must be at least 16 years old on Saturday 22 September 2018. Enter here
- Super Six event: We will once again be offering a Super Six distance for swimmers looking to ‘go long’ at Swim Serpentine. Entries for the Super Six will open soon.
Hugh Brasher, Event Director, said: “We are delighted Swim Serpentine is back in 2018 and we encourage everyone to enter and give open water swimming a go. This is a truly inspirational event for swimmers young and old, experienced open water swimmers or first-timers. This is the third Swim Serpentine and we believe the event has truly raised the bar for open water swimming events with thousands signing up for this unique opportunity to swim in the beautiful setting of the Serpentine.
“The half-mile swim is a great introduction to open water swimming, I did it last year and now I plan to step up to swim one mile this year. It’s a fantastic challenge to set yourself for 2018 and a great way to raise money for your favourite charity.”
All swimmers must either wear a wetsuit or use a tow-float. Both wetsuit and tow-float hire will be available beforehand and at the Serpentine on the day.
Swim Serpentine also offers the opportunity to complete the London Classics. London Marathon Events has brought together the best marathon in the world, the world’s greatest cycling festival and Swim Serpentine to create one of the world’s great sporting challenges.
The unique challenge requires participants to run the London Marathon (any year since 1981), cycle 100 miles in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 (any year since 2013) and swim two miles at Swim Serpentine.
Everyone who completes this iconic trio of events receives a specially-designed London Classics medal engraved with the words: Et ego Londinium vici (“I too have conquered London”) and will be listed in the London Classics Hall of Fame.
