What is Swim Serpentine?

Swim Serpentine is a one-day open water swimming event staged in the beautiful setting of the Serpentine in Hyde Park, the venue for the Marathon Swimming competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Swimmers will have the chance to take part in the following events:

Half-mile swim

Taking in half a lap of the Serpentine, there's plenty of time for you to complete this achievable, but for some still challenging, swim. It is also a great opportunity try out open water swimming if you're new to the sport.

One-mile swim

A classic distance in the world of open-water swimming events, the one-mile swim covers one full lap (1.6K) of the Serpentine. Swimmers take anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour to complete this distance.

Two-mile swim

The two-mile event is for those who would like to test themselves with two full laps of the Serpentine, and is aimed at more experienced swimmers who have previously completed a one-mile open water swim. The two-mile distance is also one of the three events that makes up the London Classics. Find out more here.

Super Six

This event offers experienced open water swimmers the chance to swim six miles in this iconic London lake in Hyde Park.

Super Six participants will need to complete their six miles in one continuous swim – meaning they won't be able to mix waves or exit the water between them, as was the case in previous years (2019 and earlier).

This doesn’t mean you won’t be able to take any breaks should you need to. A section at the end of the pontoon will be dedicated to Super Sixers, where you’ll be able to pause in the water. This area will have a check-in point with crew at the ready to help you record your laps and provide drinks and some snacks should you want them.

At the end of your sixth lap, participants in the Super Six will finish as normal.
